St. Mary's Church. Very old church - last part built in 1540. Endowed with tithe commuted at £540; glebe, £45; fees, £2 Sittings free 50; others 100. Many also sit on benches in aisles. Present morning 96 + 27 scholars; afternoon 145 + 27 scholars.  Average (12 months) morning 130 + 40 scholars; afternoon 200 + 40 scholars.   Average number very much greater in summer than in winter. Ownership: two owners: John Tollemache owned all but 30a. Scattered village. Holy Communion on first Sunday of month, Easter and Christmas; average of 45 communicants. Rector inst. 1844; Evangelical; later Bishop of Liverpool. Four Baptist families and one of Independents.
